The UAE is making significant strides towards the future of sustainable transportation. UAEV, a joint venture between the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) plans the installation of 100 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations this year. This initiative is part of a broader goal to have 1,000 stations operational by 2030.
This effort supports the UAE’s mission to boost green mobility and increase the share of EVs on the road to 50% by 2050.
Sharif Al Olama, Under-Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs and Chairman of UAEV, emphasized the commitment to expanding EV infrastructure to decarbonize the transport sector. Collaboration with Emirates Transport will also explore the future use of hydrogen vehicles and other sustainable transport modes.
This development comes as the UAE ranks second in the Middle East for EV sales, with 13% of 2023 car sales being electric.
Alex Rentier, CEO of Emirates Transport, highlighted the environmental benefits of integrating EV charging stations into the national transport network, promoting environmentally friendly transportation options and reducing carbon footprints.
